All-Star Comics - The Huntress!

One of the most fantastic things which developed from the expanded adventures of the Justice Society of America in the Bronze Age was the introduction of some fascinating legacy heroes. One of the most vivid was The Huntress, in reality Helena Wayne the daughter of Bruce Wayne, the Golden Age Batman. Raised in the Wayne household by her father and mother the Catwoman, she grew to become a lawyer by day and like her father a crimefighter by night.

Sadly her career was a brief one, though following her origin in DC Super-Stars #17 she did find some fame as a stalwart back up feature first in the dollar comic Batman Family and for several years in Wonder Woman. This Huntress met her end during the Crisis on Infinite Earths where she died off stage under the rubble of a fallen wall. She deserved better.

The Huntress adventures were gathered together in this handsome trade some years ago. Not all of it is there, but all the earliest stuff is included.

  1. Love that last cover. I can't remember if I've ever read a Huntress tale or not, strange to say.

    1. She's a strong character, surprising given the summary and ignoble way they offed her in Crisis.

  2. Looks like a Brian Bolland cover, very nice indeed - I used to have that issue of Batman Family - can't remember the story(s) now or creators (possibly Michael Golden art) but seeing it here Im wishing I still had it now.

    1. It is a Bolland cover, he did most of of the cover for DC's JSofA reprints some years ago. I traded my Batman books quite a while ago, I miss them sometimes too.

  3. Loved that issue of Secret Origins - it was among my favorite Bronze Age comics. All three tales were top shelf.

It's really too bad that the Teen Titans revival was not of the same high quality as the JSA revival.

    1. There's a wonky fun to the Titans of this era, but as you say the overall quality did not match the wonderful JSofA at the time.
