Renegades!

The Renegades was a feature in Western Gunfighters #1 from 1970.

Dick Ayers & Joe Sinnott

It tells the tale of some rough and tough types who find themselves at the Alamo. I'll say no more because below is the whole debut story in the original art format.
This is some neat raw Tom Sutton.

Enjoy!

The Renegades only made one more appearance, in Western Gunfighters #4.

Herb Trimpe

These two stories are it. There's amazingly little out there about one of Marvel's most obscure Bronze Age creations.

The stories were reprinted in Kid Colt #214 and #217.

Gene Colan

Herb Trimpe

Their story frankly reminded me of the great TV classic Branded starring Chuck Conners. I was a big fan of this ABC show, and the opening song by Dominic Frontiere and Alan Arch is fantastic. Does anyone know who actually sings it?

All but one man died,
There at Bitter Creek,
And they say he ran away ...

Branded!
Marked with a coward's shame.
What do you do when you're branded,
Well, you fight for your name?

He was innocent,
Not a charge was true,
But the world will never know ...

Branded!
Scorned as the one who ran.
What do you do when you're branded,
And you know you're a man?

And wherever you go
for the rest of your life
You must prove ...
You're a man!

Rip Off
