Sutton-Wow! -- The Cover Art Of Tom Sutton & More!

Tom Sutton broke into comics in the 60's, working for Warren and Marvel. But it was at Charlton, specifically on the ghost books that he really made his mark in my memory. The covers above are indicative of what a fantastic artist he was. No artist, living or dead, evoked the feeling of H.P.Lovecraft as effectively as Tom Sutton. The mold, the ooze, the decay, all are the very essence of Lovecraft at his most compelling.

UPDATE: And here's a late-breaking bonus. Joe Bloke mentioned that he simply adored the story from Ghostly Haunts #38. Well here it is in all its Suttonesque glory. Let Joe Gill and Tom Sutton introduce you to "The Weirdest Character I've Ever Known".

  1. outstanding stuff. that Ghostly Haunts # 38 cover is not only my favourite Tom Sutton piece, hands down, but the story it illustrates from inside the comic is also one of Tom's very VERY best strips. such a huge loss when Tom passed away. imagine the work he'd be doing now!

    wow, indeedm Rip, wow, indeed!

  4. YES! I agree with Mykal, such an under-appreciated and under-represented artist. Amazing stuff.
