High And Dry!

Here are a couple of charming Charlton covers, both using the same visual gag. I prefer the Popeye one by George Wildman, it's got slightly more character. But the Timmy one also by Wildman is dandy too, and since it's earlier I guess we have to consider it...ahem...a dry run.

I crack myself up.

Rip Off

  1. Hi RIP - I also always enjoyed George Wildman's POPEYE. There was one story I remember in particular. The Sea Hagg sends a message into outer-space & calls down a super-hero to beat up Popeye. I believe he was called the Super-Duper & he looked a bit like the Flintstones' Great Gazzo, only with muscles.

Of course, even though the Super-Duper was the Strongest Man In The Universe, he was no match for spinach. Almost positive it is from Charlton period (1970's). Does this sound familiar? Have been looking for the issue number for a long time.

Would appreciate any info you might have.
And I love your Blog. Thanks, Jim
